Here's another of my early experiments with AI music, from 2005, fiddle-master Will Henry said of Irish Trad that it was "a vocabulary", the tunes being fragments of each other, so I thought, is it lexical?
Just for fun, I fed my mini-LLM on about 6000 transcribed traditional european fiddle tunes, and generated what I called the Markov Hornpipe…

While hailed on both sides of the Atlantic as a genius, when Joseph Schillinger died in 1944, there were only 7 authorized teachers of his method. By 1947, there were more than 40, and 600 students.
Why the jump? Post-war Reconstruction in part, but his bio fingers the GI Bill, the influx of federal cash grants and loans that funded an explosion in music and other academies, plus all sorts of restaurants, small businesses, thus ensuring a prosperous childhood for what we now call the B…

If you know any teens nervously starting in a school jazz band, I highly recommend this. These young actors signed up for these roles with no prior music training (one knew recorder iirc, she stands out), their learning is real as are the very clever methods used to accelerate their musicianship, and to prove it, the band did a promo concert tour when the film was released.

Before you dis their efforts, just consider for a moment, if you were in their place, would YOU accept research funding that only required you to listen to music?

a #Nextcloud Files question: when I share a link from other file shares, message apps like Messenger create a preview with at least the file name, and I think I recall Nextcloud doing this before, but lately all my correspondent gets is a very uninformative hostname of my Nextcloud machine, nothing more.
Is this something I can fix?

A #vintageSciFi question: there are lots of plots where evil or misguided AI that controls everything runs amok (HAL) or not (COLOSSUS), but the #IvanTors film Gog (1954) is the earliest I know where a perfectly fine AI master-controller gets hijacked by code-injection from the real enemy; this happens again a decade later in Godzilla vs Megalon, but are there any earlier master-AI takeover films, books or short stories?
(fwiw, any PhD who names his bots Gog and Magog should expect trouble)
